Oil + Oil Pastel
My oil paintings begin with stillness. I spend time watching light move across water, tracing the rhythm of branches, noticing the color that sits just outside direct focus. That quiet looking is where everything starts.
The paintings themselves are built in layers, but applied quickly — almost instinctively. I rely on gesture and the weight of the paint to guide me. Oil and oil pastel give me space to shift between softness and structure, to hold atmosphere while also honoring the immediacy of a moment.
I’m trying to translate a sensory experience into something pared down but alive.
Color. Movement. Breath.

THE SOUND OF TREES
The Sound of Trees began during a period of close observation. Long walks. Quiet mornings. Time spent paying attention to branches, wind, and shifting light.
These paintings were made quickly, but from a steady place. The marks are gestural and immediate, rooted in watching how light moves through leaves and how a trunk shifts in space.
This series isn’t about exact representation. It’s about the experience of being among trees and the clarity that can surface in those moments. The work sits between landscape and sensation, holding a sense of stillness and presence.

VEILS
The Veils began as an exploration of atmosphere - how color, transparency, and slow shifts in tone can create a sense of suspended time. These oil and acrylic diptychs are built in layers, allowing each pour, each mark, each pass of color to settle before the next emerges. The process mirrors the internal quiet I seek: a softening, a clearing, a moment where perception becomes expansive.
Rather than describing a particular place, the Veils hold the emotional afterimage of morning light, open space, or a shift in weather. Their horizontal fields and luminous transitions invite the viewer into a slower, rhythm, one where the edges of sky, land, and air blur into a single contemplative field. Though they differ materially from my oil works, the Veils share the same intention - an invitation into presence, spaciousness, and subtle perception.
