AboutLauren Batiste Adams is an abstract painter whose work explores the quiet, clarifying presence found in nature. Working primarily in oil and oil pastel, she creates contemplative pieces shaped by her practice of close observation - trees, water, and light distilled into a language of color and gesture.
Her work is held in private and public collections across the United States, including Kaiser Permanente, Emory Musculoskeletal Institute, Nordstrom (Houston) and the Galleria Park Hotel in San Francisco. She has collaborated with designers and brands such as Crate & Barrel and Erin Gates Design. Adams holds a BFA in Visual Art and studied with acclaimed landscape painter Lynn Boggess. Her studio practice is rooted in attention, solitude, and a reverence for the natural world. She lives and works in a small town nestled among old hills with her artist husband and their cat. |
StatementMy work grows out of close observation and presence. I pay attention to light, movement, and subtle shifts in the landscape, inhabiting my body in the moment as I work. I carry these moments into oil and oil pastel.
Rather than describing a scene, I paint the experience of being in it. The clarity that comes when the mind quiets, the body softens, and perception sharpens. I’m equally drawn to the material nature of paint — its weight, drag, and the way layers build and move. I follow the material and let its physical qualities become part of the work. Working in quick layers, each painting becomes a record of looking, touch, and time. I hope the paintings offer viewers a space of their own: a breath, a quieting, a moment of connection.
