Fall is the perfect time for change...and I have been longing for just that - a change.
Longing for more options and a new experience. Longing for even more space to move and physically engage with the paintings. To be ever more free with the process. To further embrace the physical work of painting, the gesture of the entire body. I needed space. Space that my studio couldn't provide. So I took to the outdoors, with a big roll of canvas. A liberating feeling and a challenge, all the same. These paintings combine my old love of painting plein air with the freedom and expression of stained canvas painting. The new paintings are still inspired by landscape. They have come into being in nature, sometimes created in union with the elements, like thunderstorms or light sprinkles of rain pitter-pattering on them. I cannot move the paintings after they are begun, so they must endure the weather of the day, be it baking in the hot humid heat or spontaneous showers. I hope you enjoy slowing down and exploring these 6 new large-scale stained canvas originals + the return of Colorblocks! click images for painting details |
