Picture
"Yellow Poplar - Portrait" oil, acrylic and crayon on canvas. 60" x 35"
This is the first work in a new series that is inspired by the trees along a walking path that I frequent a lot that runs along Prickett's Creek in Marion County, WV.  There are nine trees (that are labeled) along the trail and I will be doing a "portrait" of each one.  The first is of the last tree on the trail (just to mix it up!), the yellow poplar.  This piece is also the largest painting that I have done since graduating college - it feels great!

So nice to see someone doing a tree series, and one that is more abstract! :) The colors you chose are perfect for that tree. I love how their leaves lift up right before it rains. I'm starting a series myself for an exhibit for some "tree people" (an arborists competition) in February. It's a challenge for me to stay loose and flowing like you have-very nice. Looking forward to seeing your other 8 as they come along.
